Bioplinara organica Kalnik 1 d.o.o. – 2.4 MW

  • Selected Technology: NAHTEC GmbH
  • Contractors: NAHTEC GmbH and Hidroregulacija d.d.
  • Investment Value: 59,789,669.00 HRK
  • Startup: in operation

The 2.4 MW biogas plant for power generation is located in Sveti Petar Orehovec (Gregurovec community) in Koprivnica-Križevci County. In the rural area of Gregurovec, the construction of a biogas plant is an essential part in the agricultural process, because it is possible to obtain heat and electricity and provide excellent fertilizer (co-substrate). In 2015 started the construction of the biogas plant for the production of electricity and the completion is planned for 2018. A trial run starte din May of 2016, and the full-time operation would start in July 2016.

The biogas plant will be continuously filled and will work in the medium or the mesophilic temperature range, in an anaerobic environment, hence the environment without the presence of oxygen. The energy value of the biogas thus obtained is 5.2 to 6.5 kWh / m3 of biogas. In the production or cogeneration process 83.8% of usable energy is produced, while the remaining losses are in the conversion. Approximately 42.1% of electricity and 41.7% of thermal energy are produced.

The produced electricity is delivered to the grid, while the heat produced will be used for the processing of biogas raw material (Figure 2).

Input material (biomass)

Biogas production materials are divided into two main groups:

  • Substrates:
  •     Fertilizers: beef and pig manure and manure, poultry manure;
  •     Plant biomass: corn, wheat, wheat and grass silage, fresh grass clippings, stem remains, products;
  • Co-substrates or waste from the food processing industry:
  •     Animal by-products including food, fat, fruit and vegetable residues, compost, industrial waste water rich in proteins and carbohydrates, fat-removing substances.

For the production of electricity from biogas it is necessary to provide sufficient amounts of biological waste. Another important material in biogas production is manure (liquid cow manure) which will be delivered by cattle farmers and farmers from the region. A purchase agreement for a period of 15 to 20 years has already been signed with the farmers. The manure is a problem for livestock farmers because of the legally prescribed method of disposal (in accordance with the Nitrates Directive of the European Union) so the farmers will transport it to the biogas plant. In the process of biogas production through anaerobic digestion, apart from the raw materialthe substrates are alsoused. Different types of biomass can be used for the substrate in the biogas production. Due to the favorable characteristics and proximity of the supplier, silage is used as a substrate for biogas production in the biogas plant.

A 14-year contract with the Croatian Energy Regulatory Agency (HROTE) has been signed for the purchase of electricity by a preferential feed-in tariff, which is corrected annually by inflation and rising energy prices.

The overall goal of this project is to develop and increase the competitiveness of SMEs operating in areas with developmental features of the Republic of Croatia by investing in tangible and intangible assets related to the introduction of new ICT solutions in the business of enterprises, which will optimize 3 business processes, integrate business functions and open 5 new jobs.

The target groups of the project are the current employees, co-operatives and associates of the company as well as all citizens of the Republic of Croatia.

The project will speed up and facilitate the day-to-day business, increase the quality of communication and open up opportunities for developing new projects.

It is also important to note that the project has a positive impact on the environment as the implementation of equipment and solutions results in a reduction in the use of paper in everyday business, electricity consumption and higher production of electricity and heat from the biogas plant and therefore renewable energy sources.

By implementing a 12-month project, we will encourage investments in the total amount of 1,306,541.20 kn and improve business efficiency by improving 3 business processes: strategic planning, risk management and asset management.
